Program Description
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the United States.
Because of the prevalence of this disease it is important that Physician Assistants,
Physicians, and Nurse Practitioners in the primary care and specialty practice settings
remain aware of recent advancements in the field of cardiovascular medicine. To meet the
demands of for practitioners in these different practice settings, the Association of
Physician Assistants in Cardiology has developed a comprehensive cardiovascular medicine
review course to complement all areas of medical practice. This program will offer two
educational track options for the attendee. The program's first educational track is
designated the primary care track and will focus with topics on the latest prevention,
diagnostic, and treatment recommendations for coronary artery disease, acute coronary
syndrome, cardiac dysrhythmias, congestive heart failure, hypertension, dyslipidemia,
metabolic syndrome, and peripheral artery disease. The second track is designated the
specialty track will provide lectures and workshops with a focus on timely topics such as
cutting edge interventional and non-interventional therapeutic modalities for treatment of
congestive heart failure including device interventions, atrial fibrillation, angina
management, coronary stent protection, risk factor stratification for coronary artery
disease, and diagnostic imaging options for diagnosis and management of cardiovascular
disease. In addition the program will be highlighted with a keynote addresses on updates
on the history for outcomes and treatment of myocardial infarction, interventional
recommendations for coronary artery disease, and cardiac rehabilitation considerations.
Not only will this program provide a great opportunity for continuing medical education it
will also be incorporated into a fun filled 6 day Western Carribbean cruise departing from
Fort Lauderdale, Florida aboard the Royal Caribbean cruise liner "Enchantment of the Seas".
The conference begins with a kick-off celebration on the evening of 17 October in Fort
Lauderdale and the cruise departing on 18 October. The educational component of the
program will be conducted while the ship is at sea. So there will be plenty of time for
